What is Radon?

UNDERSTANDING RADON: THE SILENT THREAT

Radon is a radioactive gas naturally occurring in the environment, originating from the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It's notorious for its potential to infiltrate homes via foundation cracks or other access points. Radon gas is the nation’s second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. When your home's radon level reaches 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or more, which quantifies radon concentration, EPA recommends immediate action in the form of Radon mitigation. For professional Radon remediation or Radon testing, get in touch with us today for a free consultation!

If you're buying or selling, we'd recommend a read through the Home Buyer's and Seller's Guide to Radon from the EPA.

How Radon Remediation Works

Test-icon

TEST

To start, we need to figure out if radon is a problem in your home. Radon is a gas you can't see, smell, or taste. So, we use advanced technology in the form of Continuous Radon Monitors (CRM’s) to detect it. The test takes 48 hours with immediate results. Although it's possible to do the testing yourself, it's best to hire an expert that knows exactly what to look for!

MITIGATE

If the test shows your home has too much radon, we'll implement a radon mitigation system. This acts like a vacuum that sucks up the radon from under your house and lets it out safely through a pipe on the roof or other appropriate locations. It's important to have a professional handle this as they will guarantee Radon levels are reduced below EPA 4.0 piC/l threshold.

FOLLOW UP

Once the system is installed, we'll need to check that it's working. This means doing a followup test to see if the radon levels in your home are now safe. If the system is doing its job, the radon levels will meet or exceed EPA guidelines. EPA recommends testing every two years to ensure your system is operating properly. Having a service contract with us will insure proper testing as well as a review of the installed system assuring the client that the system is operating as designed.
